The Aetherblades

Instruments of the Guardian Path

Amongst the many technologies developed by the House of Abraxas, few objects embody its philosophy of disciplined power more clearly than the Aetherblades. These weapons, carried primarily by the Abraxian Guardian Class, represent a union of ancient craftsmanship and advanced energetic engineering.

Unlike purely energy-based weapons, the Aetherblade is fundamentally a forged metal sword - a physical instrument shaped with meticulous care and reverence. Its blade exists independently of its energy field, retaining the balance, weight, and elegance of a traditional weapon even when inactive. Only when its internal systems are awakened does the sword reveal its true nature.

Upon activation, luminous Aetherion energy flows along the metal blade, surrounding it in a radiant sheath of power. The sword does not dissolve into energy; rather, the energy becomes an extension of the blade itself, amplifying its cutting potential while maintaining the precision and discipline of physical combat.

The result is a weapon that is at once ancient and modern - an artifact of both metallurgy and cosmic science.

Forged in the Fires of Myrina

Throughout the centuries, there have been many artisans across The Middleverse that perfected the crafting knowledge of the Aetherblade, but this formidable weapon was originally conceived in the Forge of Stars, on Myrina, one of the most revered industrial and artistic complexes of the Orionis System. Myrina is the great manufacturing world of the Abraxians, where technological innovation and master craftsmanship converge. Within its immense foundries and crystalline fabrication halls, countless advanced instruments are produced for the Abraxian civilisation.

Yet even amongst these marvels, the forging of an Aetherblade is considered a task of exceptional significance.

Within the Forge of Stars, specialised artisans and engineers collaborate to create each blade through a process that blends metallurgy, energy calibration, and precise technological integration. The metal used for the blade is refined to extraordinary purity and shaped with extreme care, ensuring that its structure can harmonise perfectly with the energy systems that will later flow through it.

The hilt of the weapon houses the sophisticated mechanisms that control the blade’s energetic field. These systems regulate the release and stabilization of Aetherion energy, allowing the sword to remain both stable and responsive during use. The resulting weapon is remarkably resilient, capable of channeling intense energetic output without compromising the integrity of the metal blade itself.

Although produced within advanced industrial environments, the creation of an Aetherblade is never treated as mere manufacture. Each weapon is crafted with the understanding that it may one day be wielded by a Guardian responsible for preserving balance in The MiddleVerse.

The Nature of the Energy Blade

When an Aetherblade is activated, its internal systems release a controlled stream of Aetherion energy along the surface of the forged blade. This energy forms a luminous sheath that enhances the weapon’s cutting potential and allows it to interact with both physical matter and energetic phenomena.

The metal blade remains fully present beneath this radiant layer, acting as both structural anchor and conductor for the energy field. This design allows the wielder to retain the precision and control associated with traditional swordsmanship while benefiting from the additional power provided by the energized blade.

The glow emitted by an active Aetherblade is both intense and elegant, illuminating the surrounding space with a soft yet focused radiance. Along the blade’s edge, the energy appears almost fluid, flowing with subtle motion that mirrors the wielder’s movements.

This visual effect is unmistakable. When drawn in darkness, an Aetherblade traces arcs of light through the air, transforming each movement into a fleeting signature of energy.

Resonant Colours of the Blade

The Aetherion energy that surrounds an active blade manifests in several distinct luminous hues. Among the most commonly observed are blue, bright white, green, purple and the colour of fire.

Each colour radiates with remarkable intensity, casting shifting reflections across armour, terrain, and atmosphere during use. Though visually striking, these variations are not merely aesthetic; they reflect subtle differences in the energetic resonance of the blade’s activation field. Regardless of colour, all Aetherblades share the same essential structure and purpose: a harmonious fusion of metal and energy.

The Guardians & the Discipline of the Blade

The Aetherblade is most closely associated with the Guardian Class, whose members undergo extensive training on Orion’s moon, Ilyrion. For the Guardians, this weapon is not simply an instrument of combat but a tool through which discipline, awareness and restraint are expressed.

Guardian training emphasises control above all else. The sword must move as an extension of the wielder’s awareness, never as an uncontrolled force. Because the Aetherblade combines physical mass with energetic amplification, it rewards precision and punishes carelessness. Each movement must be deliberate, balanced, and measured.

For this reason, the weapon is ideally suited to the philosophy cultivated on Ilyrion. Guardians learn to engage with the blade through calm focus rather than aggression, allowing technique and clarity of mind to guide every motion.

In the hands of an untrained individual, an Aetherblade would be merely a powerful weapon. In the hands of a Guardian, it becomes something far more refined. It becomes a disciplined expression of balance.

Presence on the Field

When wielded in motion, the Aetherblade produces an unmistakable visual presence. The radiant edge of the weapon creates arcs of light that linger briefly in the air before fading, marking the path of each movement. During combat training on Ilyrion’s crystalline fields, these luminous trails often intersect and weave together, forming temporary patterns of energy against the moon’s silent landscape.

The weapon’s glow also serves a practical function. Its light allows Guardians to operate effectively in darkness or low-visibility environments, illuminating immediate surroundings without the need for external sources.

Yet despite their power, Aetherblades are rarely drawn unnecessarily. Within Abraxian culture, the activation of the blade signifies a moment of seriousness and intent.

Symbol of the Guardian Path

Beyond their practical role, Aetherblades have come to symbolise the path of the Guardian itself. Their design reflects a fundamental Abraxian principle: that power should not replace discipline but rather be guided by it.

The physical blade represents craftsmanship, tradition, and the enduring skills of the wielder. The energy that surrounds it represents the advanced science and cosmic understanding developed by the Abraxian civilization.

Together they form a single, unified instrument - one that mirrors the balance the Guardian Class strives to uphold across The MiddleVerse.

For this reason, the Aetherblade is not merely a weapon of war. It is an emblem of responsibility, carried by those entrusted with the preservation of equilibrium between power and restraint.
